沸石(zeolite)是一种矿石，只是分子筛的一种，但是沸石在其中最具代表性，因此"沸石"和"分子筛"这两个词经常被混用。人造沸石是:磺酸化聚苯乙烯;天然沸石:铝硅酸钠。沸石族矿物常见于喷出岩，特别是玄武岩的孔隙中，也见于沉积岩、变质岩及热液矿床和某些近代温泉沉积中。河北省围场县为目前我国境内已发现的沸石储量最高的地区，沸石储量20亿吨以上。
沸石滤料主要有斜发沸石和活化沸石两种。斜发沸石是铝硅酸盐类矿物，外观呈白色或砖红色，属弱酸性阳离子交换剂，经人工导入活性组分，使其具有新的离子交换或吸附能力，吸附容量也相应增大。它是一种架状结构的多孔穴和通道的硅铝酸盐，表面粗糙，比表面积大，有良好的吸附、交换性能，是一种天然轻质滤料。
天然沸石是铝硅酸盐类矿物，外观呈白色或砖红色，属弱酸性阳离子交换剂，经人工导入活性组分，使其具有新的离子交换或吸附能力，吸附容量也相应增大。主要用于中小型锅炉用水的软化处理，以除去水中的钙、镁离子，从而减少锅炉内水垢的生成，减轻水测金属的腐蚀，延长锅炉的使用寿命。在废水处理中，可用于除去水中的磷和铅以及六价铬。失效后的沸石可用于浓盐水逆流再生后重复使用。

产品用途：
天然沸石是一种新兴材料，被广泛应用于工业、农业、国防等部门，并且它的用途还在不断地开拓。
1.在医学上沸石用于血液、尿中氮量的测定。
2.沸石还被开发成为保健用品，用于抗衰老，去除体内积累的重金属。
3.在生产中沸石常用于砂糖的精制。
4.新型墙材(加气混凝土砌块)原料
5.研究证明，沸石作为饲料添加剂可以促进猪生长的性能，减少氨气排放，并且不会对猪的健康产生负面影响。
6.沸石在水产养殖中被广泛应用。在鱼、虾、蟹饲料中应用沸石具有促进新陈代谢，促进生长，增强抗病力，提高成活率，调节动物的体液和渗透压，保持酸碱平衡，净化水质的功效，还有一定的防霉作用。
7.作水质处理剂。沸石由于内部有很多孔径、均匀的管状孔道和内表面积很大的孔穴，因而具有独特的吸附、筛分、交换阴阳离子以及催化性能。
8.作修建渔塘材料。沸石内部有许多孔隙，具有极强的吸附能力，人们在修整渔塘的时候，摒弃过去全部采用黄砂铺池底的传统习惯，采用底层铺黄砂，上层撒放具有阴阳离子交换能力和吸附水中有害物质作用的沸石，这样可使渔塘水色一年四季都保持绿豆青色或黄绿色，能促进鱼类快速健康生长，提高养殖经济效益。
